TEYA FACTS

Goal & Impact

Tanzania Emerging Youth Awards (TEYA) goal is to raise youth profile, build capacity and highlight the contribution they are making towards developing a fairer, sustainable, peaceful, and prosperous future for the United Republic of Tanzania. TEYA give national recognition and support to those young men and women age 15 -35 who have demonstrated young peoples capacity and potential to make positive contributions to their communities, nations and the world at large in finding sustainable solutions.


This has really impacted and increased the reach for the piloted initiative.

400 youth physically attended, 323 YouTube viewers from the live streaming and more than 5,000 viewers via Clouds Tv live streaming during the awarding ceremony.

Successfully reached 1,167 youth through nomination process across Tanzania main- land and Zanzibar.

Categories.
TEYA 2021 Categories.

  • Successful enhanced sustainable relationship with the the Government of Tanzania Through Prime Minister’s Office, Labour, Youth, Employment and People with Disabilities as our implementing partner and endorsement each year towards this initiative.
  • 20 development partners were engaged, both private , government and development partners to kick off this initiative.
  • Increased awareness and motivation towards youth to utilize their time, skills, knowledge and resources to transform development of Tanzania communities.
  • Contributed to Changing of the mindset and negative perception about youth and youth investments.
  • Increased credibility to Small and Medium Enterprises in Tanzania owned by young men and women.

REVIEW THE ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS

Be sure to review the individual eligibility and criteria requirements for the specific award category you wish to submit a nomination.

  • The nominee must have been engaged in development work for more than 12 months, either in a professional or voluntary capacity.
  • The nominee must be a Tanzanian citizen and the development work must be taking place in Tanzania (Mainland or Zanzibar).
  • The nominee should not be older than 35 on 30 July 2022.
  • Individuals/ entity / organization can nominate themselves or be nominated by someone who can accurately describe their development work.
  • The winners must agree to take part in publicity generated by the AYT and the awards committee.
  • All past awarded winners aren’t legible to participate in nomination.

Awards will be decided on the basis of;

  • Level of Impact.
  • Level of innovation/fresh approaches to problem solving.
  • Quality of achievement.
  • Quality of the evidence provided.
  • Sustainability
  • Sustainable Development Goals Contribution.

AWARDS PROCESS

AYT will formulate an organizing committee which will be leaded by Executive Coordinator and Founder of the Award initiative supported by other young motivated volunteers selected, to lead the following;

  • The team will clearly identify categories of this year awards that will be provided base on the need and significant impact done on that sector.
  • The team will open a call for nomination for individual/ entities and organization to nominate or self-nomination.
  • The team through identified judges committee working closely with Ministry officers and other relevant authorities’ representatives will clearly select 4-5 nominees for the voting process.
  • There will be 3 finalists per each category will each receive a trophy and a certificate to recognize their efforts.
  • The final winners will receive additional capacity development trainings after the awards.

Objectives

What makes us unique

Highlight the contribution young people are making to promote the common goal of a future built on fairness, peace, prosperity and sustainability.

Acknowledge the outstanding contributions made by young people to overall development in the Tanzania.

Create an environment which will encourage and sustain investments in youth led development.

Illustrate the depth and breadth of talent, commitment, innovation, and creativity that exists among young people across Tanzania by highlighting nominees' success stories.

TEYA Event Sections

The event is divided into three sections as follows;

  • 01 One Stop Exhibition

    All nominees are given a platform to exhibit their work done through photos, publications, videos and prototypes; in another hand youth stakeholders including private sector, service providers, government agencies and development partners are provided opportunities to provide informations and opportunities for young people through exhibitions.

  • Panel discussion: Multi-sector actors will have an opportunity to share and transfer knowledge and information to youth. It will also provide a room for youth to raise their voices on the challenges they encounter and explore opportunities. The panel discussion will be represented by experts amongst all being engaged stakeholders based on their expert field area and innovative youth. The following will be thematic areas focused on panel discussion.

    • 1. Peace, security and climate change
      2. Education, Health and Gender
      3. Technology, Business and Innovation
      4. Leadership and Governance
  • This will be platforms for 15 youth from the finalist nominees to pitch their innovative ideas through various challenges provided. Team will mobilize stakeolders who will provide mentorship, technical, financial support to the winners after the awards.

  • The final grand event day, this will bring together 400 participants including private sectors, young men and girls cross Tanzania Mainland and Zanzibar and awards finalist. There will be entertainment performance from artists, speeches from development partners, networking and wards for the finalist nominees.
